Railfanning

I've enjoyed watching trains, or "railfanning" for as long as I can remember.

Following in the footsteps of other like-minded geeks (Twin Cities Railfan, Twin Cities Railfan Guide), I'm contributing to the fray with a few pet projects of my own.

Railfan Atlas

Railfan Atlas is a beautiful map interface for exploring Flickr's railroad photography. The project started scouring Flickr for train photos in April, 2014, and has since become one of the largest databases of railroad photography on the internet. It's been covered by Railfan & Railroad Magazine; the Trains Magazine Blog, and CityLab.

Last of the Griswolds

Once a common sight across the Upper Midwest, these iconic railroad crossing devices, manufactured in Minneapolis, are now few and far between.

Train Beds

Both of my sons sleep atop beds modeled after modern diesel locomotives.
