Minnesota, Twins, Trains, School, Etc.

Wed February 21, 2007 10:47 pm (UTC-6) by Nick Benson   [Permalink] [No Comments | Add]

At the behest of numerous concerned citizens, I'm taking a few seconds to post... long time no see, eh?

The biggest news is the upcoming trip to Minnesota. We're going up on Friday and returning Sunday. If you didn't already know, it's because Ayyam-i-Ha (if you say "A Yamaha" you're close, just replace the second "a" in Yamaha with a long "E" sound), starts this weekend. Ayyam-i-Ha, if you're curious, is the celebration that the Bahai Faith has at the end of one calendar year and before the start of the next (they've got 19 months with 19 days, that leaves 4 or 5 days left over). As far as having a good time and giving gifts go, it's not unlike Christmas or Hanukkah. Emily's family is Bahai, and I rarely miss an opportunity to have a good time, so we'll be there.

On a secular note, this gives us an opportunity to fly on several different airplanes, namely ERJ-145's and 737-500's. We're flying on United via Chicago going up, and via Denver on the way back. Kudos to Luke for the transportation to and from the airport.

Speaking of Minnesota, my folks are taking us out to see the Twins play the Royals in a 3 game series this April. Should be a lot of fun. Bette's obsessed with them (Twins), and they've got a really nice ballpark in Kansas City. Emily and I stopped there to watch a game in August, and it was spectacular. Let's hope the weather's good.

I've been getting pretty involved with the N scale train club here, and it's a lot of fun. We've got the layout setup at Crossroads Mall, which isn't too far away. It's a lot of fun seeing little kids getting a big kick out of our trains going around in a big loop.

School's not particularly exciting this semester. Analytic Methods is basically a special ed. version of statistics, GIS Applications is more annoying than anything else, and nothing extraordinary has happened in Hydrology yet. I ought to get to work on my independent study project, something entertaining might come out of that.
